Protecting Public Health and Animal Safety
Thank you for choosing North Iredell Animal Hospital. We understand that a first visit often comes with questions, and our goal is to make your appointment as smooth, comfortable, and informative as possible for both you and your pet. We look forward to welcoming you and beginning a long-term partnership centered on your pet’s health and wellbeing.
Before Your Visit
Prior to your appointment, you will receive a text message from our team that includes a pre-visit questionnaire. We ask that you complete this form before your scheduled visit, as it allows us to review your pet’s medical history, current concerns, and specific needs in advance. Preparing ahead helps your appointment flow efficiently and ensures our time together is focused and productive.
If you have any difficulty accessing the questionnaire or do not receive it, please contact our office. Our team is happy to assist you.

What to Bring to Your Appointment
Bringing a few key items with you helps us provide thorough, efficient care and make the most of your visit:
- Medical records or vaccination history, if available.
If your pet has been seen at another veterinary hospital, we are happy to request records on your behalf. Please provide the name and phone number of any previous clinics so we can assist with obtaining this information. - A fresh stool sample, ideally collected within 12 hours of your appointment
- A fresh urine sample, if you are able to collect one the day of your visit
- Current medications or supplements your pet is taking
- A list of questions or concerns you would like to discuss
- A leash or secure carrier to ensure safe handling and transport
If you are unable to collect a stool or urine sample, please do not worry. Our team will review available options with you during your appointment.
What to Expect During Your Visit
When you arrive, one of our client service representatives will welcome you and escort you and your pet into an exam room, helping create a calm and comfortable beginning to your appointment.
A veterinary technician or assistant will then join you to:
- Obtain your pet’s weight, temperature, and other vital signs
- Review medical history, lifestyle, diet, and any current concerns
- Answer initial questions and gather important details for the veterinarian
This information is carefully shared with the veterinarian to help guide thoughtful, individualized care.
Next, the veterinarian will enter the exam room with the technician or assistant to:
- Perform a comprehensive physical examination
- Discuss findings and address your questions
- Develop a personalized care plan
- Provide treatments or diagnostics as recommended
We believe veterinary care works best as a partnership. Our team takes the time to explain findings, review options, and ensure you feel informed and confident in every decision regarding your pet’s health.
Wellness Visits vs. Sick Visits
Understanding the type of appointment your pet is scheduled for helps ensure we can address your concerns thoroughly and allocate the appropriate amount of time for your visit.
Wellness Visits
Wellness appointments focus on preventive care and overall health. These visits typically include a comprehensive physical examination, discussion of lifestyle and nutrition, vaccinations as appropriate, parasite prevention, and early screening for potential health concerns. Wellness visits are designed for pets who are feeling well and are an important part of maintaining long-term health
Sick, Urgent, or Emergent Visits
Sick visits are scheduled when a pet is experiencing a specific concern, such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, limping, changes in appetite, allergies, ear infections, or other symptoms. These appointments are problem-focused and may include diagnostic testing, treatment, or follow-up care based on your pet’s condition.
If your pet’s symptoms change or worsen before your scheduled appointment, please contact our office so we can help determine the most appropriate next steps and level of care.
Helping Your Pet Feel Comfortable
Arriving a few minutes early can give your pet time to settle into the environment before the appointment begins. Your calm reassurance can make a meaningful difference, pets often take emotional cues from the people they trust most. If your pet tends to be nervous or anxious, please let us know. We are always happy to adjust our approach to help them feel safe and at ease.
After Your Appointment
Before you leave, our team will carefully review any recommendations, medications, or follow-up plans with you. Our goal is for you to leave feeling informed, confident, and supported.
If questions arise after your visit, please reach out. We are always here to help guide you in caring for your pet at home.
