CATS/KITTENS

*FVRCP: Prevention of viral infections, upper respiratory infections, and other fatal infections that may occur.

*FELV: A virus that causes immunodeficiency and cancer. This virus can be spread by bites, close casual contact, shared dishes, or litter pans. Our policy is to test all new kittens at the age of 8 weeks or older. Only cats which go outdoors or have exposure to other cats that go outdoors are vaccinated. There for we recommend that all cats are tested that are new kittens, new to a house-hold or if there is a question of exposure to a positive cat.

FIV: A virus similar to HIV in humans which causes immunodeficiency in cats. In a combo test with FeLV, we begin testing in cats 8 weeks or older. There for we recommend that all cats are tested that are new kittens, new to a house-hold or if there is a question of exposure to a positive cat.

A vaccine is available and is thought to be 60-80% effective. All cats which have been vaccinated with the vaccine will subsequently test positive on any screening tests. Our policy is only to vaccinate animals whom share a household with a FIV positive cat. The vaccine is given as 3 boosters 2-3 weeks apart and yearly thereafter. This vaccine has to be specially ordered. We do not carry in stock.

Kitten Visits

FELV/FIV testing is repeated in life if there is an exposure or if the pet was tested too early in life

1st kitten shots @ 8-9 weeks with FVRCP/FELV + Fecal and de-worming

2nd kitten shots @ 11-12 weeks with FVRCP/FELV and Rabies(required by law) and de-worming

Cat vaccinations are repeated yearly unless your cat is a totally indoor animal and then the team will discuss vaccination options with you. We still recommend micro-chipping your pet in case of an escape.
